Module Home
Parents want the best for their children. Schools want to provide
the best for their students.

As an Assistant-Principal, you will have gained administrative
experience dealing with parents and will have developed strategies
that work for you. This module offers suggestions and workshop activities
to help you combine your experience with ideas that others have
found effective. It also includes resources for you to use adapt
for use in your school.
Parents are one of several key partner groups in the school and
community connection. You may also be interested in a separate and
complementary module in the ASAP program, Developing Stakeholder
Relationships.
Module Guidelines
The module consists of ten chapters, each highlighting an effective
way to encourage parents to become partners with the school in which
their children are enrolled.
While you go through this module, keep in mind specific interactions
that have occurred with parents in your school. Think about the
critical turning point in each interaction. This is the
point at which some comment or action sets the tone or feeling of
the exchange.
Assignments and Workbook Activities are designed to be practical
(although the theoretical bases will be identified). Most will focus
on the "how," with support for the "why."
Workbook Activities are provided for each chapter. Select activities
that are most appropriate for your needs. These activities will
help you to review information that you have already reviewed and
to think through new ideas that may be useful to your particular
school.
Assignments are more extensive activities. You may select any one
from the four assignments offered or create one based upon your
interest, need and/or experience.
